When you know yourself, and when you are peaceful with who that person is, you are liberated. Created free and whole. Knowing there was never anything wrong with you, but instead accepting of your quirks and foibles.

When you are peaceful in your own body mind and soul you don’t…

  • Spend to feel good
  • Compare yourself to others
  • Feel bad about yourself
  • Take it out on other people
  • Take notice of those things you can’t change or impact
  • Need validation from others

In fact, you do nothing but focus on yourself. But not in a egotistical way. You focus on your hearts needs, your talents and passions. You focus on the life you want to live without censorship.

You get comfortable with being yourself around the crowd. Neither rejecting or accepting the norms, but walking parallel to the world and on your own path.

Others may be dismayed by your choices.  They may watch the way you are choosing to live and not understand it. And that’s ok.

They may laugh at you. Seeing you as a buffoon! Laughing at the way you choose to be because to live alternatively may be too challenging for them. And that’s ok.

They may fear your independence. Seeing you as being difficult to understand or control. And that’s ok.

And they may be inspired by you! Seeing there may be another way that they have never been exposed to. And that’s ok too,

Because regardless of wether people reject you, or honour you, it won’t be anywhere near as important as honouring yourself. You will become your number one priority.

Now to say ‘You will become your number one priority’  in the modern day context is about self absorption. It’s all about me!! Everyone else is secondary to that…

BUT in times of old, to honour yourself first was about uncovering your god given talents and passions so that you could serve the community. Finding your ‘self’ was about being able to provide to the community that which others couldn’t.

So how do you know when you’re on the right track?

Some of you will have been lucky enough to have known what you loved and be guided to do what you love right from the beginning.

Most of us start on a path chosen by others at the age of 15/16 and walk a path that doesn’t quite fit us.

And others end up surviving and doing anything they can just to keep their head above water.

Regardless of the starting point, to live your path is to ‘know thyself’. To know what floats your boat. What gets you excited. When you become absorbed in an activity and time just melts away.

When your heart swells and you get that excited feeling in your stomach. This feeling is the light that shows the way.

Like a torch in the dark, when we recognise any feelings near to what I describe we must take notice! This is the language of the direction we must travel.

This internal voice is the map.

The feelings of joy, love, excitement, passion, curiosity, interest are all precursors to taking action! No force required… true motivation comes from the want to do or follow an inspired thought or feeling!

I believe this is the true ‘honouring of god’ and I don’t mean God in the religious sense. I mean God as in the natural intelligence that connects all living things. This universal intellect is in you, and through our internal voice of joy and love it directs us to fulfil our higher purpose, and you are made of it too! When you find your passions and purpose you are in touch with the source of all things. And I believe you are then in true alignment and playing your part in, and for, the whole.

A  person who is in this flow. Fulfilling their fullest expression of who they are, are in love. In love with life, and with themselves. In the best way possible and ultimately for the benefit of all.

A person who is in this flow cannot be easily distracted or taken off course. Nothing will ever feel as wonderful as feeling the fulfilment in just being yourself.

A person who is in this flow is so peaceful. It is hard to control someone who knows their own mind and worth. Who can say no with ease and clarity to others who think they know better for them.

Yes a peaceful person can be seen as a dangerous person indeed. Because they are intriguing examples of living a life outside of the concepts, norms and systems that guide our world.

Imagine if everyone lived their lives from the heart? and in living their passions for their communities they were truly deeply happy?

The person who loves to garden and grow vegetables.

The person who loves to sew and make clothes.

The person who loves to sing and dance and entertain.

The person who loves to build and make.

The person who loves to lead and inspire.

No money required… because when we do what we love, and we do it with love for others, we are already fulfilled. And we are rich.

I have been told on a few occasions that I am an idealist. But if a different vision can not be offered, how can it ever be realised? I love being an idealist… Envisioning a different type of world. And I don’t just write about it, I walk my talk.

I have taken difficult decisions that in our modern day world have seemed to others as non sensical, but each step and challenge and change has brought me to becoming more authentically me.

I am part artist, part theologian, part teacher, and part perpetual student. My ‘self’ and my ‘work’ blend together so nowadays I am just myself at both home and work. Difficult to define and label. And that’s ok too.

I invite you to walk this road with me too. What’s the worst that can happen? You may just live in your passion and live your purpose and share your grace with all. Not such a terrible way to live a life eh?!
